My Home Stay

This is my homestay :) Wonderful ain't it?! This is a very big apartment for Paris, or so I was told, but I believe it. I brought up a friend of mine to my room and she said it's the biggest house she's ever been in (and this is her second time studying in Paris). CHEERS TO THAT! Plus, I'm also missing some pictures of another hallway, the kitchen, another bathroom, and where Madame and Monsieur Courreges room. Their whole house looks very Louis the XVI. Actually, I might have a portrait of him in my room ;-) I know there's a book about him in my room. I attempted to read it.. got to the first line then threw it across the room. That was french?! Gosh, I have a lot to learn. I tried putting the pictures in order of when I enter through their front door but it didn't quite work out. So I'll just explain each one.
The first picture is their guest room. They have their friends over once and a while for tea and that's where they all sit in a cute little circle and talk in cute little old french. The second picture was taken right before I had dinner with the them. I helped set up the table... well I tried to at least. I forgot what side they like their forks and spoons on, where the wine glasses go (more to the right or to the left? Because there's one for water, and one for wine) and THEN I didn't know where to put the plates because Madame gave me three plate for EACH person. I though to myself "There isn't enough space to spread our three plates for each person! What do I do?!" Well, you stack them I guess.. as Madame showed me because she saw me staring blankly looking back and forth at the plates and table. "comme ca allise, comme ca." = "Like this allise, like this." heh.
YAY, and then I finally got the courage to ask if I could take a picture of them during our Valentines Day dinner. Aren't they adorable?! Madame is very much a grandmother as she does have 13 grandchildren... and Monsieur is very cute, he can't hear a darn thing.. so he always just smiles. The second gentlemen is one of their sons who speaks really good english. Oh yes, and that we are eating is the first course: pumpkin soup. YUMMMM..
The second cours was veal in mushrooms and onions, peas and carrots. Normally I wouldn't have even touched the meat but Madame is so proud of her food that I took some anyways. It was actually quite good. Really tender, pretty much reminded me of the beef in mom's beef stew. I also eat the ham here too! oh my. oh my. The ham here is different though.. more salty... tastes great with cheese and a baguette! YES, on to the third course: 4 different types of cheese and bread. The last and fourth course was either an orange or banana. Ha, take your pick ;-) I helped clean up the table and I thought we were done with dinner.. but 15 minutes later, while I was talking to their son about some good places to go in Paris, Madame pops out of nowhere and gives us some home made cake. It was goooooood. I was SOOOO full...
THe fourth pictures is the hallway that leads to my room on the right (the one with the open door). There's a room straight across of mine but it's vacant. You can slightly see part of another door cut off on the left side of the picture, that's Monsieur and Madame's room. Now, if I turned to my right after taking the picture.. I would see picture number five. The door with the poster on it is the toilet, the door on the left is the community grand daughter room. Their grandchildren come in and out, sleep when they want... as they please. However, one of their grandchildren, Claire, usually studies in there everyday. The door to the right is just storage I think.
The sixth picture is another hallway that lead to the kitchen, the closed mirrored door at the end. That's where I walk every morning in total darkness for breakfast :) Mom, Dad and Mer,you can sort of see the telephone on the left and the chair I would sit in when I would call you.. but no more of that now that we have skype!

The last two picture are just picture of other rooms that I know nothing about. WEll, actually.. the second to the last picture (the one with the sun coming in pretty bright), that's the TV room... Monsieur sleeps in there with his book in his hand every day... also where he shouts out french words at the TV.. i can only assume he's watching Jeopardy or something.. I hope.
That's all :) I'll try to take better pictures of the Courreges later.
Good night...

Allie, the apartment looks so so FRENCH and the Coureges look great. You're very lucky to have been placed w/them. Madame looks dressed to a T and the gentlemen are all in coats and ties... for a dinner at home even. This is classy. I hope you dress up too. Maybe we should try this at home. Keep posting and warm!

Allie- wonder if Paris is going to turn you into a "foodie"? You know, you and your dad could have your own Food TV show (I don't think there's a Dad-Daughter show yet). I don't know if this is close to you, but a friend says you should try the Le Grande Epicerie de Paris (in the Bonmarche). I guess its the bottom floor of a department store (kinda like in Japan). And, some kind of cafe or bakery called Paul?
